  3. Position of microorganisms in the Living world: Five-kingdom concept, three domain concept, prokaryotic versus eukaryotic cells.
  4. Prions, Viroids, Rickettsia and Mycoplasma: Discovery, Structure, general characteristics

and importance.

  1. Viruses: Discovery, nature, structure of RNA virus (TMV) and DNA virus (T2 phage); multiplication of viruses; transmission of plant viruses, importance of viruses.
  2. Archaea: General characteristics and importance.
  3. Bacteria: Prokaryotic nature, size, shape and arrangement of bacterial cell; chemical composition of flagella, pili, capsule, cell wall, cell membrane, nucleoid, cytoplasm, endospore; classification of bacteria on the basis of flagella, multiplication of bacteria (binary fission), importance of bacteria.
